Obituary for Norma Roddy

Norma Ann Hussey-Roddy (57) returned to her heavenly home on April 9, 2017 after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Norma was born to the late Joe and Julia Hussey, a retired Army major and a homemaker respectively, in Lafayette, LA on May 16, 1959. From very early on, Norma had a love for music. She was an accomplished pianist, organist and vocalist. Norma earned her degree in psychology from the University of Arkansas. She went on to earn her masters in music from the University of Memphis. Because of her passion for music, she used her talents as a church choral director, school music teacher and vocal coach. She was well loved by her students and choir members. Norma was also an avid horse lover. She had a heart for animals. She especially loved her Haflinger horses and her beloved dog Clancy.
Norma was an encourager by nature. She was kind and gentle—always finding ways to love others. She had an adventurous spirit, fully embracing life and living it to the fullest. She was a devoted friend, lover of family and doted on her nieces and nephews.
Norma married the love of her life, Steven Blair Roddy on August 9, 1980 in Fayetteville, AR. After they married, they moved to the Memphis, TN area where Steve worked as an airline pilot. In recent years, they moved to Bridgeport,TX where Steve continued his work and Norma enjoyed farm life, caring for her horses.
Norma was preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers John and Lonnie and a sister, Nora. She is survived by her husband, Steve, brothers Joe Hussey of Tulsa, OK and Ross (Belinda) Hussey of Bryant, AR, sister-in-law Janet Roddy Hargett of Hurst, TX and nephew Brian. Niece Lori (Chad) Brown and great nieces Vivian and Julia and great nephew Trevor of North Little Rock, AR., nephew Dr. Michael (Dr. Sophie) Hussey and great niece Olivia and great nephew Calvin of Little Rock, AR., niece Kaitlin (Zack) Fischer of Bryant, AR.
In line with her wishes, Norma requested to be cremated and did not want a funeral. Her ashes will be interred at the family plot in Fayetteville AR next to her mother and additionally scattered on her beloved farm in Bridgeport, TX. The family would especially like to thank her closest friends who came to be by her side to comfort her on her last days. She was truly loved by all who knew her. The family asks that the best way to honor Norma would be to make a donation in her name to a charity of their choosing.
