Mark Christopher Ulrich (01-05-1960 to 12-15-2018)

Mark was truly my Soulmate of 33 years whom I admired, respected and loved. Mark was filled with Love and blessed with Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding and Intelligence and applied his blessings to his daily life. Mark was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand, he had a wonderful sense of humor, attentive and respectful of others. He loved his family and above all GOD.

Mark attended St. Paul Elementary Catholic School in Kenmore, New York at the age of 4 by the age of 5 Mark was walking home from school on his own. The teacher could not believe he was so independent that she had Mark bring a note from his parents allowing him to walk home alone. By the age of 6 during the summer Mark obtained a job delivering news papers to earn money to build rockets and wooden cars to participate in school competitions where he won first place. In the 4th grade he met Mrs. Mary Wolf who became his favorite teacher and a life long friend to the date of 50 years. In the winters Mark would shovel the snow from people’s driveways and charge a fee to maintain his rocket building hobby and building his wooden cars for school competitions. Later Mark joined the Boys Scouts of America where the scout leader Mr. Gruber introduced Mark to nature. Mark learned to love nature by planting trees, fishing, camping and helping the community. Mark obtained the highest award and became an Eagle Scout!!

After graduating from St. Paul Elementary Catholic School Mark tested and was accepted at St Joseph’s Collegiate Institute where he graduated with a
Regents High School Diploma. St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, founded in 1861, is an independent Roman Catholic College preparatory school for young men. Established by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, SJCI is chartered by the Board of Regents of New York State and accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. While at St. Joseph’s Mark joined the music departed where he played the lead guitar in the jazz band and played classical guitar as well. The school later participated in a regional competition where the top 10 jazz performing schools were to compete at Berklee College of Music in Boston. There Mark was able to demonstrate his talent by performing a solo on his guitar and at the end of the performances St. Joseph’s won first place in the competition!!
Once Mark graduated from St Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, he decided he was going to major in music and applied at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he was accepted. Mark and I met in Berklee where I played the piano.
We met in one of our music classes and fell in love.
Mark decided to change professions and attended State University Of New York College At Buffalo where he obtained his Bachelors Degree as a Software Engineer. After we both received our bachelor’s degrees we were Married.
Mark continued with his studies and attended Boston University where he graduated with a Masters Of Business.

Mark would set his goals and obtain them. He was an extremely hard worker and yet he would make sure we would spend quality time together making sure we enjoyed life! Mark’s love for music took us to many concerts all over the states meeting famous musicians, enjoying different cities. We traveled to Europe, the Orient, the birth place of our Lord, Jesus Christ: the Middle East, Greece, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, and the British Virgin Islands.

Mark loved life and the world and contributed by establishing honeybees for our community. Mark was part of the greater good for humanity. Mark would say that honeybees help at least 30 percent of the world’s crops and 90 percent of our wild plants to thrive and that without honeybees many plants including food crops would die off.

Mark was the happiest when he was outside mowing the lawn, trimming the bushes, planting flowers for our honeybees and planting trees. In March of this year he planted 6 Bur Oak Trees in our property, that he started from acorns. He said, “These trees will eventually grow to be 100 feet tall, with a branch spread of 65 feet and live up to 400 years, but we will never get to see their beauty but it makes me happy that I have contributed to nature and that humanity will one day enjoy the beauty of these Bur Oak Trees.”

Mark was diagnosed with tonsil cancer earlier this year and went through the treatments. He beat the cancer but the chemo and radiation destroyed his body. Mark fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept his faith.
May Our Lord Jesus Christ Bless Mark Christopher Ulrich with all HIS Heavenly Blessings Now and Always. Mark, Rest In Peace. Amen

We Love You and Miss You Dearly!!

A Poem of Remembrance by his beloved wife, Yvonne Valdez-Ulrich:

They say memories are golden,
well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
in death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway
and heartache build a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.
