Marilyn June Venable was born on December 25, 1934 in Blaine County, Oklahoma to Floyd and Ina Venable. She grew up with 4 siblings on the family farm in Loyal Oklahoma toward the end of the Great Depression and throughout the end of the second World War. The family later moved to Enid for several years, then to Victoria, Texas where she and her twin sister, Jean, graduated high school. Her love of music was realized very early, which led her to receive a full scholarship to the University of Corpus Christi in the 1950s. There, she met Eddie Lee Cathey, and after graduation they were married in July 1957.

After their move to the Houston area, both June and Eddie served as schoolteachers in the Galena Park ISD where they remained until their retirement in 1995. They also served Oaks Christian Church faithfully as choir director and organist, until their retirement in 1999.

By 2004, the Cathey’s retired to the hill country of Kerrville, Texas before moving finally to Azle, Texas in 2011, where they enjoyed many wonderful years with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Throughout the decades of her life, June’s love of music resounded in all of the family’s gatherings, church services, and events, including the Sunday morning of her passing. June faithfully inspired her children and grandchildren to play musical instruments including the piano, oboe, clarinet, flute, violin, and guitar.
