Kristi Lynn (Gunnels) Reed 53, of Bowie passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving mother and daughter on December 8, 2021. She was born on January 19th, 1968, to Melvin (Bunky) Gunnels and Jimmie (Sharp) Gunnels in Fort Worth, Tx. She is preceded in death by her father, Melvin Gunnels.
Kristi attended Bowie High School where she graduated in the Class of 1986. She was a homemaker for many years, and eventually went to work at Bowie Memorial Hospital as the Director of Nursing Secretary. While at Bowie Memorial, Kristi knew no strangers. She talked and laughed with co-workers and patients alike, and treasured the friendships she made.
Kristi had many hobbies, but her favorites were spending time laughing and making memories with friends and loved ones, as well as music. Her love of music began at an early age with piano lessons, and she continued playing for years. Morgan frequently requested for her to play “The Entertainer”, and due to its difficulty it was probably her least favorite to play, but she always obliged. Morgan loved the music, but she more enjoyed just watching her mother play. Through her love of music, she inadvertently instilled a love of 70’s music that follows Morgan to this day.
While Kristi’s first priority was being a Mom, her most cherished title was Nanna to her grand-babies. She was an avid collector of Precious Moments figurines and always said that Cam and Emma were sent straight from Heaven and completed her collection. Those who loved her will remember her for her lightheartedness and uncanny ability to make others laugh. When she hugged you, you knew she was hugging you with all of her heart and when she listened, it was to understand and not just to reply.
Kristi is survived by her daughter, Morgan Blaylock and her husband Darrel of Bowie, her mother Jimmie Gunnels of Decatur, her brother Coby Gunnels of Weatherford, and her precious grand-children Cam and Emma Blaylock of Bowie, as well as her partner in crime and best friend of 37 years Lena Tucker of Montague.
We rest assured in knowing that Kristi is now in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.
